Counselling and support services for asylum seekers

Help us to continue supporting people seeking asylum

Our mission is to ensure that every single refugee feels safe, welcomed and empowered as they begin their new lives in Australia and in their new community. The Romero Centre is committed to advocating for the rights and wellbeing of people seeking asylum. We work closely with local authorities, non-governmental organisations, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that their needs are addressed, and their voices are heard. We believe in creating a community that is inclusive, diverse, and enriched by the contributions of all individuals.

There are many ways you can make a difference in the lives of people seeking asylum in South East Queensland.

Pantry Items

Your contributions directly support the Romero Centre’s weekly pantry distribution, which provides essential groceries to individuals and families seeking asylum. This initiative ensures access to non-perishable staples and fosters a sense of dignity and belonging.

Vouchers for Fresh Food

Vouchers enable individuals and families seeking asylum to purchase fresh food items such as vegetables, meat, milk, and other essentials. This approach promotes choice and ensures access to nutritious and culturally appropriate food.

Employment Clinic

This program employs bicultural workers who are themselves seeking asylum to assist others navigating employment challenges. It builds their confidence and skill set while fostering peer-to-peer support, empowering both the worker and those they help.

Emergency Relief

Emergency relief funds address urgent needs such as temporary accommodation, e-vouchers, transport assistance (e.g., Go Cards), and other critical expenses. These resources provide immediate aid during crises, offering a safety net for the most vulnerable.

Romero General Support

General support funding ensures the Romero Centre can continue its vital operations, including case management, advocacy, and community programs. These funds sustain the Centre’s ability to deliver meaningful and ongoing support to people seeking asylum.

Sponsorship

A sponsorship of $2000 supports an asylum seeker from the early stages of their settlement journey through to securing stable employment. This comprehensive assistance helps them overcome the significant challenges of rebuilding their lives and becoming self-sufficient. Your contribution will make a tangible difference, transforming lives and fostering positive change within the community.

Donate Goods

Your donation will help us provide nutritious food and hygiene items to ensure people seeking asylum have access to the basic needs.
